Faire is a wholesale trading platform that connects suppliers and stockists, helping small businesses to grow together. They don't charge suppliers a fee to be listed on the platform, but they DO charge a commission - 25% on opening orders, and 15% on reorders.
Yuck!
I mean sure, it's fair enough (faire enough? Lol) that if the platform is acting like a sales agent and truly making these connections, then they should get a cut. But they don't have to get such a huge cut, when those pennies, pounds, dollars and cents could all be in the hands of the brands instead.
If a buyer clicks your direct link, Faire knows that you made the connection and will charge 0% commission.
However, if a buyer doesn't click your direct link, the tracking doesn't start, so if they shop from you on Faire, you'll be charged commission. Once that first sale is done and a commission is charged, you're charged that reorder commission forever.
The reasoning for whether the commission gets charged or not is based on who REASONABLY made the connection. If a buyer finds your brand through the Faire search, then it was Faire who made the connection. If a buyer finds you through your direct link, then YOU made the connection.
So, one of the most important, and easiest ways to not get charged commission is to get buyers to use your direct link. Of course, this is not always possible, but there are other actions we can be taking, too.
Crucial note: You have to email them every three months in order for this to be true. If you email them in January 2026, and then don't email them again but they buy from you in April 2026, you WILL get charged commission.
To avoid this, make sure you set up automatic emails that send out to your connections every two and a half months.
But all of this communication example relies on having found and made the connection to an email address. This is the secret to getting 0% sales - doing the work to find the email addresses of potential buyers.
You have probably already got an idea of the shops you want to buy from you. You probably have their email addresses. EMAIL THEM THROUGH FAIRE. Then, do some research and find even more email addresses from even more potential stockists. THEN EMAIL THEM THROUGH FAIRE.
You don't really need to worry about bombing them, or cold emails - stockists are already bombarded with millions of emails from Faire, mostly they have these emails turned off anyway. But it doesnt matter if they open or read the email, it only matters that you sent it (from the Faire commission point of view).
So, the work you should be doing to collect email addresses is doubly effective if you put them into your email list on Faire, as well as then write personalised emails to them that they might actually read.
