There's something in the air around New Years. Fireworks, for one thing, but even for people like me who went to bed at 10pm on the night of nights, there's a certain something that comes with the turning of the year.
I don't have any resolutions this year, in particular. I haven't waited for the changing of the year to make promises to myself or others, I feel like that's something I can do all throughout the year. Much like Mariah Carey, I don't really believe in time (if you haven't watched the interview, you simply must. We love an unhinged queen).
I have a set of values that I live by, which are Accountability, Transparency, Creativity and Honesty, Authenticity. Values comin ATCHA. These things I work on every day, especially in business, where so much of marketing can involve trickery or obfuscation.
I try not to lie, ever. This includes exaggerating, though I still catch myself doing this sometimes to make a point - you really gotta emphasise your pain to your GP to actually get some help, you know what I mean? But in business, honesty, transparency and accountability all go hand in hand.
If someone asks me how to do something, I will tell them. If I dont know the answer, I will admit to this. If I break something, or something fails, I will own up to it. I'm not perfect, and pretending to be so is just stupid. So, especially with SEO, these qualities are important to me.
For example, I can boast about my client successes, where I have seen brands now take in tens of thousands of pounds every year from organic traffic sales. But I can't guarantee this outcome - I can't guarantee any particular outcome. So, I don't rely on these KPIs and ROIs and whatnot, I just promise you that I will do my absolute best, following the best information I have, and that I genuinely want to be part of your success story.
